Hello Awesome looking table again, Thanks. Having trouble with my rom. looking for a new rom but now cant seen to find it, What rom is needed for this table and where can I get it from, Thanks so much for your awesome work again.

I believe somebody already posted the colorized 1.80 rom in this thread someplace.

Having said that, you can get the rom file from Stern’s website: https://sternpinball.com/game/metallica/

Just remember to change the rom name in the script to match the one you’re using.

This is truly amazing work. Wow…I think AC/DC is Stern’s best music pin but I have grown to love Metallica over the last couple years and this table is an absolute treat.

I love how the colors pop after adjusting the LUT and the new lighting is something I have been wishing for since the first Metallica VP table. Sparky looks amazing! The lighting when Sparky gets zapped is PERFECTION. The light show is awesome.

I’ve had the 180hc rom for some time and it works great here.

This table plays BEAUTIFULLY! Nice physics!

Thanks so much for this table, VPW! I cannot wait for your next release!

This is a gorgeous table. Love the theme and the concept. The whirlpool primitive in the top playfield is really cool as is the pop-up shark. The surfing ramp (way in the back) is one of the coolest gimmicks I have EVER seen and I wish I could see that as a real feature on a real table because that amazed me the first time I made that ramp.

The only feedback I can give is that the lighting needs to be slightly improved (especially on the sides) and I would re-work the drop target fonts and the plastics so they look more real.

Also, I’d remove the “Splish Splash I was taking a bath” bit as well as the “Get Lucky” clip from the first two ball drains. They just feel out of place with the overall “Endless Summer” film theme. The other music is perfect. I LOVE the Sex Wax Mode music as well as Skeet Surfing.

          VERY cool.

This is one of the most fun original tables I’ve played and I LOVE the PUP Pack which just adds to the experience.

          Thanks for this table!

“Option 8 – PUP Stream” is only meant to be used for those using PUP Stream and a dummy monitor dongle with a single screen desktop.

Anyone else using normal desktop needs to use a FullDMD option, but you MUST use “pup-packs on top” to “try” to manage / focus FP after the pup-pack starts.

Right…I used the Init file you included in the JAWS Pup Pack for “PUP Packs On Top”. That works — but it’s that the FPLoader window keeps popping up over the FP Player window along with the PUP Packs and I have no idea why that’s happening.

              @TerryRed

Ooooook. I think I got it figured out…with the exception of one issue.

Before I get to that, I went ahead and eliminated the PUP Stream option and elected to just use PUP DMD stuff. That worked out. Option 8 WAS working but resizing all the layers was a headache and the life preserver ring layer on the right wouldn’t stay on top no matter what I did, so I elected to use Option 5 instead of Option 8 for the PUP Pack. It just works better. Less layers to deal with so I don’t lose any during gameplay…however…

I am still having an issue with the following and maybe you can sort this out for me:

When I begin the game, the table does its regular loading thing. Then comes the option to “control the camera”. At that point, the PUP Pack loads — but it brings everything else on the Desktop to the forefront. This happens regardless of which layer I use.

Even if I start from a clean desktop, the FPLoader app jumps out in front and stays there until I click on the FLoader app, then on the Player window.

After that, everything works just fine.

Aside from all that, everything works beautifully but I’d ideally like to stop that sudden background pop from occurring if I can.

Understand…. trying to run pup-packs on the same monitor as FP/VPX is “not” how pup-packs were originally intended to be used…and FP / VPX were also not designed to allow other programs to be “on top” normally.

So getting this to work with FP means using workarounds (like pup-packs on top) to try to manage each window to be on top while keeping FP focused… but it’s not perfect. This also means you can’t have anything else open/visible on the same monitor.

Running something like PBX will probably add more problems, if you don’t know what is happening in the background. I’d highly recommend getting this to work with NO front-end first, and get used to how it works/operates.

You have Pup Stream enabled….which I would recommend not doing so as it will confuse you with how you are trying to use this (FP windowed).

                Better option:

I would highly recommend getting a dummy plug monitor dongle and plug that into your video card. Then you can display the pup-pack on that dummy monitor, and use PUP Stream to stream the pup-pack into FP. This lets you run FP in “fullscreen” with no workarounds which is MUCH better than trying to shuffle the z order of FP / pup / PBX, etc. (and it will display on the various parts of the table cleanly, and it FP will run MUCH better in fullscreen)

I’ve been so busy hitting you up for help, I never got a chance to thank you for it or for the table. You and SLAM did excellent work on this. I know I was hard on SLAM back on VPF a while back but this table really made me smile.

I’ve been playing the “rom” incarnation of JAWS for a long, long time so this was an absolute treat. I love that there’s now a deep rule set and a final objective. Just outstanding.

Thank you for a great table. I’ve enjoyed playing it even without the PUP Pack stuff.

I have been thinking of making my own table but I have no idea how to code or do the 3D stuff…and I have a few great ideas in mind.

Personally. Fairlight got the same amount of money from me, so no loss there, I just think that the VP version played better and that is what I continue to play. B-)

Yeah, I ponied up the dough for the Android Tablet, iPhone, and PS4 versions (the latter of which was the best due to lighting and graphics). The VPX version, though? Superb.

After being introduced to VP, and after taking awhile to get it working, I couldn’t go back to Pinball Arcade. Physics weren’t good. It seems like the main drive was so people could play on mobile. Tables all seemed to play the same with a different paint job. But after reading one of the developers interviews about how complex and stunning the physics were, I felt betrayed. It was BS. The tone of the article just bugged me probably more than it should have. It just seems like the target audience wasn’t someone like me who wanted as close of recreations as possible.

Thank goodness we have VP. I didn’t shed any tears after Farsight discontinued TPA.

Absolutely. If I’m somewhere standing in line, that’s the only time I break out TPA. I whip out the iPhone and play. Otherwise, no way I’m going to play TPA when VPX is the better product.

                    @TerryRed

I uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything top to bottom.

The PUP Pack is working…sort of.

I have the following two issues:

                    1. When the PUP Pack starts up in Future Pinball, the app suddenly loses focus and gives way to the FPLoader app underneath it. Not only that but anything else open also overlaps Future Pinball. So, if you have a folder open on the Desktop, that window also suddenly jumps in front of Future Pinball. You can fix it by clicking it away — but since I’m trying to run this all off of PinballX as a part of my presentation to my gamers, I’d rather not keep clicking on the Future Pinball Player window.
                    2. The same DMD video is playing in five different areas. Top left, top right, a smaller window “hanging” from the top left and the two apron sides on the bottom of the “virtual cabinet” on screen.

The only screen up seems to be PUPSCREEN5 and nothing else.

                    I’m this close, Terry… :-/

Yes, of course. The loss of Bally/Williams was huge. The Gottlieb tables are…I mean, there are a few gems in there but Bally/Williams produced some outrageously good tables compared to that company. Zen has worked wonders with the license — though I don’t care for their cute little add-ons. Attack From Mars and Arabian Nights look great even on the iPhone and the physics are far better than what Farsight was tossing our way.

It’s just odd because even with the loss of Bally/Williams, Farsight had that sweet Stern money. They produced a decent version of “Ghostbusters” (though the mobile version was shit) and AC/DC and Star Trek are just outstanding. I loved Mustang. That’s become one of my favorite tables…I just can’t help but think they may be afraid of homebrew coders here taking what they produced and making it better.

I mean, the VPX version of Ghostbusters was far better than the one on TPA.

For pup displays…. I meant did you position and set them up where they need to be on your monitor (pup backglass, pup full dmd).

Using the PUP Editor? Yes. I did that. Still no PUP windows in FP.

Do you have FP running in borderless windowed mode? (more info on the FP an BAM guide)

                        Yes, it’s in Borderless Windowed.

Be sure you have Visual C++ updated (link was given in instructions).

                        Done. Still the same issue.

If enabling the other pup options in PinEvent_Settings.vbs gives you those kind of errors (and all files are installed and pup installed correctly)…. then you most likely have a security / admin issue restricting BAM (FPLoader.exe) from being able to access PuP. Be sure you don’t have any blocked files…and be sure you don’t have anything set to run as admin in your PuP install folder. Then try running FPLoader.exe as administrator. Always close FP completely each time you exit a table before trying another table or reloading the same table.

I did all of this. Still the same issue. Nothing is blocked. Nothing is set as “RUN AS ADMIN” and I tried doing that to no avail.

I even moved the FP window out of the way at one point. I see nothing from PUP coming up. Every other table in VPX works fine so it’s an FP issue.

Shame that this table isn’t sharable. I have it. I’m not gonna give it away to anyone.

I’m a touch disappointed in Farsight for just kinda allowing TPA to go into limbo. After Ghostbusters, it feels like they called it a game and packed up and went home.

I’m speculating here but I feel as though Stern/Farsight believe any new SPIKE releases will be hacked and put into the VP community for download.

I don’t know what you are wanting to do (fp running in fullscreen using pup stream and a dummy monitor? or forcing pup-packs on top of FP in windowed mode?):

As stated, I am running this on single-screen desktop.

                            • did you install / update to pup 1.45?

Yes. BAM is also up to date at 313.

                            • did you setup your pup displays according to the PinEvent install instructions (and for your specific setup)?

In the VBS? Setting all the Desktop config to “TRUE” broke the game and gave me a “717 pSetDMD error”. I had to change the Desktop back to “FALSE” on all counts to get it back and working again — without the PUPScreens.

                            • did you try running FP in Debug to see what it tells you?

                            Debug screens say the following:

                            PinEvent _Variables.vbs 1.4 loaded
                            Desktop Mode
                            PinEvent_Settings.vbs 1.4 loaded
                            PinEvent – Desktop Profile
PUPDMD Default = 2 FULL DMD
                            PinEvent_Control.vbs 1.4 loaded
                            PUPDMD = 2 FULL DMD
                            PinEvent_PUPDMD.vbs 1.4 loaded
                            BAM Version: 313

                            • did you disable the FP Backglass and Arcade mode?

Arcade Mode is disabled. The FP Backglass might be where I am stuck. I have no idea how to disable that.

                            • did you enable pup stream? (do you have a 2nd monitor or dummy plug to display the pup-pack on?)

No, this is for a single-screen Desktop with “PUP Packs on Top” .bat file running.

                              I’ve installed everything.

                              Table
                              PUP Pack
                              Scripts
                              DOFLinx
                              DirectOutput
                              PinEvent
                              Config
                              Correct settings for Desktop
                              Registry updated
                              BAM updated

Whatever has been listed in your instructions has been installed.

I have double-clicked 100 times on Option 8. I have started up DOFLinx…though I have no idea if it’s running because nothing happens and there doesn’t seem to be any indication that anything related to DOFLinx is even running.

But then your instructions say something to the effect of “Don’t try to run a PinEvent table with DOFLinx” — even though you say you need DOFLinx to run this on a desktop…it’s not clear.

I can run the table fine. But I’m only getting the Amity billboard and the regular old orange DMD.

Nothing else works and there’s no sign that FP is even talking to the PUP Pack in any way.

I don’t know what else I could be missing.

Well…I just copied over the pinupinit.bat from GOTG and it looks like it all works. There’s just about a 7 or 8 second delay in the windows launching.

Someday, if somebody has the time, they need to explain to me what number means what in that .bat file because looking at the settings doesn’t mean much to me. :(

In any case, success. Everything is up.

I’ve had this table for a while and love playing it — except, for some reason (and I don’t know if I changed something), the font overlay on the PUP Pack stopped working. I can see all other layers. Everything triggers correctly but I cannot get the font overlay to stick on top of the “Drone Cam” layer.

I am running VPX 10.6 on a single-screen Desktop on Windowed Fullscreen with PUP 1.45 and everything appears to be set correctly.

When I download the Pup Pack, the Editor sees things like this:

                                  ForceBack – 2 – Blackglass only
                                  ForceBack – 11 – Underlay Videos
                                  ForceBack – 1 – PUPDMD
                                  ForcePop – 13 – Fullscreen Videos
                                  off – 0 – Topper

Starting out with that doesn’t bring up anything. Everything SAVE for the Font layer is hidden. The font layer is over the generic DMD scoreboard.

                                  No Backglass to the right.

No DroneCam — and the Fullscreen videos (“Welcome to the Future”, et al) are the only ones that pop up.

Forcing everything on brings up DroneCam and Backglass, and gives the Pop-DMD video layers — but completely covers the font layer. It also kills the splash DMD “Welcome to the Future” at the beginning.

“Show” on everything makes it all vanish, except for the Fonts — but “Welcome to the Future” still pops up.

Alt-Tab gives you the font layer on top of the DroneCam — but the font overlay vanishes when you drain a ball.

                                  What am I doing wrong?

This table is absolutely amazing. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think it would be possible to play a modern Stern on VPX in the near future.

I haven’t been this excited to play a table since MPC released Ghostbusters using the the PBA rom.

Thank you to everyone who pulled this off.

                                    – Thanks for the instructions on how to get this running on a single screen desktop. I was pulling my hair out. It still has some issues (as you stated) and I constantly have to check my Task Manager to see if PUP is still running after I quit. It’s like PuP Player get stuck and won’t quit correctly so when you restart VPX and try to play another PUP table, you can’t.

Thanks, Daryl. :) Great table, otherwise. It’s been a blast and a privilege to play in the virtual world. I love the real life table so much so this was a nice surprise.

Would that work for a desktop setup like mine?

EDIT: Success! 3-screen worked and separated video from backglass.

One more thing: is there supposed to be audio during video clips? I’m seeing clips of Herman getting blasted with fire and yelling something in return. I see clips of Lily talking but no audio. Occasionally, I will get audio blurbs with Herman saying something about “scaring up rent” but there’s no video to go with it. At times, I will hit the scoop or an orbit and I will get about 10 seconds of nothing but the grey screen.

This happens probably 20 percent of the time. It’s as if the PUPPack for Munsters tires out and just stops loading media.

I thank you but the layout isn’t what I’m concerned with. It seems that the Backglass comes in three pieces:

                                          1) The Munsters backglass (characters on it)

                                          2) The video screen that plays animations

                                          3) The menu wording that tells you what’s going on (eg: high scores, “SPELL L-I-L-Y”

I would really like to get rid of the glass portion and simply magnify the video/font portion. It seems impossible because it’s all glued into the “Backglass” option in PUP, so if I shrink or magnify the backglass, so goes the video and menu fonts. I run this on a desktop and I really don’t want to run this in Windowed format.

Is there a way to simply have a video screen without the Munsters backglass attached to it?

Also, I am having an issue, at times, where animations and videos go missing (“Grandpa’s Basement” plays nothing sometimes) and I am getting video animations where characters seem to be saying something but there isn’t any audio. There’s just music playing constantly. Audio seems random at times as well.

Great job on this table. Smooth gameplay and I love it. :)  Just a quick config question with regard to PupPlay…

I run VPX on a Desktop (one monitor). The backglass layer (with the Munsters on it) is taking up a huge portion of the corner of the screen. I would really like to get rid of that if I can and just enlarge the video screen and score font layers.

How does one go about doing that? I suspect it’s within the PUPPLAYER setup, I just don’t know which layers to adjust.
