Hi,
So what your saying is you initially set it up for use in Future Pinball using that installation, now when you try using Visual Pinball it doesnt want to work. Am I correct in that?
The system is pretty much a DirectX ports system, regardless of its shape. From the product description it appears so. Have you gone through the button reassignment in the VP Editor. Each of the editors is a seperate entity and should be treated as such, the keys you setup in FP will not work in VP until you reassign them.
Although the software for the interface should store the directx key press chr sometimes it wont want to talk to 2 lots of software. Each key can be assigned to a button.

Nudge hardware, please define exactly what it is you are using to provide the info to the PC. Is it an accelerometer based board or some other form of movement detection, (ball on a string).
As for reorganising your controllers into priority use the Game Controller interface to assign priority. If that fails let this thread know.
Multi controllers and interfaces are a pain. I have Legacy (Basic) devices in conjunction with Modern day HOTAS and Joypad. Ive made a few USB 32 step controllers. Provide the information I will provide what help I can

That was my assumption, but I have found other issues that may be compromising the editor integrity.
However, for the short term, the program has been fully uninstalled, obviously backing up the folder to reinstall Tables, Roms, Music, NVram. I have NOT saved all the highscores and other data in the User folder. Yes I know they are text files, but this is a just in case action.
- Used windows Uninstall, but used it through CCleaner tools interface.
- Ive searched for and removed all reference to VP from the Registry using the Find function.
- Ive also removes all forms of association to all the exe’s in the VP install.
- The folder has been deleted.
- Ive reinstalled the latest beta pack and this time I have backed up the folder prior to actually using it. This way if this occurs in the future I can compare the two folders, note the changes and possible issues and post them for all to use.
All appears to be running correctly and as it did. I have configured the options to the windowed mode which has appeared again in the listing.
My thanks to all for your input.

Thanks all for your help.
The properties window that opens with the editor turned out to be one of the editing features that had turned itself on. So that one is fixed.
However the windowed mode doesnt work. Ive gone through all the settings in Video and tried them all checked and unchecked. I shall await the answers to my questions before reinstallaing.

Thats what used to happen on mine. And now I have yet another twist to the tale
A properties window now opens up with the editor every time and it been turned off on the control box so you cant close it. Im going to look at the code and see what exactly is going on here, things just dont make any sesne, (thats sense but seems to be what im getting)
Im going to do a full cleanout and reinstall, what OS is this written on / for please?
Quite likely all this is because of the damn featuire updates, (ponders Windows 7 double boot.){{Or maybe even a linux double boot with Wine}}
Oh and Thalamus, Ive tried all the resolutions with and without FS checked, doesnt make a scrap of difference. Thanks for the help, its all appreciated.
Like Thomas Eddison when asked “How do you feel about having 85 failed attempts at making a light bulb, before you succeeded?”. His reply “I didnt have 85 failiures, I found 85 ways of not making a light bulb”

As for the windowed mode, I had one initially, made it easy for sliding windows around on the two screen setup Im using. However, wierd or not, I now dont have a windowed selection.
Video GTX 970 is always updated on the day of driver release, its a never ending battle with Microsoft changes and new game releases. The windows 10 installation is on feature pack 1903 and the VPX Editor is the latest installation pack thats shown on the forum downloads page.
Ive got all my tables backed up as well as roms and nvram and things. But this one is causing me headaches looking for what caused the Window selection to disappear from the resolution selection screen. Ive only had the installer in for around 6 weeks or so when I joined the forum, since then two updates, one major, one minor have been made to Visual.net 4.5 as well as 4.8 and other featuire pack additions, the minor one didnt alter anything but a coding typo in a system file which has nothing to do with VP.
Only thing I can think of is to clean it out fully inc all registry input and reinstall. But in doing that it opens the way for a repeat action to take place.
The other resolutions in the list all just appear as fullscreen no window border, just the table shape changes and the pixel density obviously. Ive tried pretty much every setting in the menu to see why this has occured but as yet, no luck.

No heres the bottom of my video resolutions list.
There are NO window mode listings.
There used to be, but now this is all I have. I dont want to start messing around in someone elses code unless its vital that it happens.
This is my Options below. Which brings me back to the original post of (see top start comment)

This is why Im asking if there should be a windowed mode and if not then can one be added. All the resolutions I have are for JUST full screen resolution, there are no specific Windowed mode resolutions or a check box for same.
As you have answered my question, I will amend the main code I downloaded from Github and make an updated version for me to use, then it wont go upsetting anyone.
Thanks for the advice

Probably I didnt make it clear enough.
So about 6 weeks r so ago. I decided to start playing instead of watching. I downloaded the
o
It works great for playing all the tables. However, when it was first installed it had one screen resolution listed that was a Windowed Mode. Since last weeks Microsoft we are going to change Windows 10 for Windows 10 update and the new Nvidia driver set, the one resolution that opened in a window hwen you play the table, has disappeared. I used to be able to drag DMD screens from the horizontal screen and place them on top of the table in play so I could see the score and film without having to swap screens.
My request was purely to add a windowed mode check box onto the resolutions screen so each resolution could be played in a window leaving the editor in the full size resolution behind it. And enable the DMD placemnet by drag.
I downloaded this editor version because its the most common download in the list.
Ive got FP and BAM installed as well but on a different folder. Seeing as a recommendation from someone said they dont use that version I just use the version above. Is there a newer version Im missing.

October 9, 2020 at 9:43 pm in reply to: Can’t set keys or play with keyboard after new install (Desktop, no Cabinet) #204008Hi Guys.
New Windows 10 installations have one major thing in common which you both seem to suffer with. Updates. Use your “Check windows Updates” and install all the latest stuff. Yes it takes a whiole and yes the feature packs are a pain, currently im on 1903.
Once your all up to date theres a couple of downloads I highly recommend as a computer engineer, Visual C++ redistributable downloads. Dont stick these in prior to windows updates youll only have to reinstall them afterwards. If you use X64 bit then use both X64 and X86 downloads, itll save you grief in the long run trust me.
You need to download and install the Visual C++ redistributable files for the following years:-
2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015-2019 (may have 2020 now too)
Each download is available in the redistributables search on http://www.microsoft.com.
Also check you features update selector for the current and past version of Visual.net
Currently 4.8. whatever is the latest just make sure you have the 4.5.1 installed again if not X86 and X64 versions as needed from Microsoft
DONT DOWNLOAD THEM FROM ANYWHERE BUT MICROSOFT.
NEXT
Drivers.
Yes I know its a lot, but it will make your systems sweet to run. Keyboard and mouse drivers by default will jump onto Microsofts own generic ones which quite frankly suck, they sucked in 95 they still suck today. Find your Keyboard and Mouse manufacturer on the back of each device and get the official drivers from their site. Personally Keyboard I use a Corsair K50 Raptor, currently in need on a 120 cherry switches to renew it if any kind soul out their is looking for a charity case ;) . My mouse is a Logitech Gaming model (something in chinese) basically both keycboard and mouse work legacy and under their own drivers, but are configurable in their own software, NOT IN MICROSOFTS. Get the latest drivers or treat yourself to a nice new set to go with the PC. Nice Gel pack for the wrists is useful too.
Install the drivers for each and also while your at it, check the Video card type and drivers, same with the sound card.
I know this is a lot to go through, but itll take your PC weeks, maybe even months to realise this stuff is missing. Installing it yourself will save you time and heartache on all your installations.
Ok now you have the base framework installed this will make all the latest and oldest stuff you have to use on your PC ablke to at least run (Legacy gets touchy as does 16 bit, message me for fixes)
In the white bar next to your start type DXDIAG. This little tool will help you to see what version of DirectX is installed and whats happening elsewhere on your system.
JUST TO BE CLEAR DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM ANYWHERE BUT MICROSOFT AND GENUINE PERIPHERAL SITES.
Any issues im available via Message or email @aol.com, just strap my user name in front of it. DirectX controls the keyboard to logic system. If DirectX doesnt work right then your drivers are just going to get gibberish.

Your not the only person that suffers DMD display issues.
I also have followed the advice in this post and on some, not all tables the DMD just isnt on either screen (2 Monitor setup one horizontal (main) One portrait (game and coding)) The dmd when I look for it on the editor layout is way out there on some tables so when the tables loaded it miles off to the left / right top bottom of the table.
As I can drag some DMD displays around from one screen to another is it possible to make the DMD a valid window rather than a corproate part of the editor design. If this poster is having the same issues as I do then this could be the solution rather than settings.
Maybe……………….?

Whats a “NUDGE” ?
Never seen fit to use one even on real tables. Then again on the tables I played on the owner was only interested in coin in slot, shortest game possible. He insisted the 1″ strip of timber under the back legs was to “Increase gameplay and reduce floor damage due to heavy back boxes.” God I miss the 80’s.

Ok, Ive found a PDF online with some guidelines and tips for getting started. Have to admit I do like to make help files up on new projects, even if it is just for my own use. That way I see it grow step by step and learn a number of ways on each subject, read it, examine its code, play with its function settings and of course write what I find in the help manual.
Im not expecting miracles in minutes, bit to old in the tooth for that. Ive seen some Tables that literally are just copies of other tables with images changed. Its so nice to have an active forum for information and ideas.
Thanks for the post Terry, its good you get involved. A lot of top administrators dont talk to the little guys. Until the little guy seems to be doing everything right and comes up with some idea they want. Ive read a lot of helpful tips so far and already committed a few to the help system.

Yep and legacy games should be discarded to history. Wait that means giving up on loads of useful and fun games to play. Old does not mean discard, just means they are pre updated models. They all took time to build, I know my old programs still get referred to for new build.
So I can take it that the VPX format is goiung to be superceeded now by BAM and FP.

Not quite sure what a lesson in Binary has to this post but many thanks.
So from that I can take it that an image would be stretched over the playing field to suit the size.
And you say the playing field dimensions are roughly 515mm x 1067mm (20.25″ x 42″ 150dpi for example). So the playing field for pinball machines is not a factory standard or regulated size then, just the size you fancy building it?
And the images you work on use the full sizes not scaled down or stretched up. So if for exaple you want a playing field of 600mm x 1100mm then work on the image at those dimensions and a decent DPI (dots per Inch or centmetre) resolution to giuve the best background?
