I just set up the UltraDMD piece too, and like that combo.  Might be a bit repetitive, but nice to have the option.

Loving this table especially now with the PUP pack.   Thanks to all involved.

I just installed a “Poor Man’s DOF kit” (exciters+amp) and I am swept away by how much more I am sucked into this game.

Now you just need to not call it “Poor Man’s DOF” LOL.

It has been called SSF  (Surround Sound Feedback) for a couple of years and as you mentioned it add SO much to the gameplay.  There is nothing “Poor Man” about it.  :-) :-) :-)   It is good stuff and since HP GOF was built from the ground up, you are right that it is implemented AMAZINGLY well with this table.

Gave it a whirl.  I agree with the other post that this is more fun that it might look from the outset.  Give it a shot!

Once question, in this and SupermanTAS, when the ball drains down the left outlane, it stops for a second and then continues to roll down the angled part towards the “drain.”  Is that an expected behavior?

Thanks for working this (and SupermanTAS) up.  They are simple compared to other tables, but still look sleek and fun, and I certainly don’t have the skills to do this.  Downloading the PupPacks now and going to give them a whirl.  Nice job!

Update:  I just played a couple games of this and BatmanTAS and don’t let the simplistic look fool you.  These are pretty fun tables with more to them than you would think at first glance.

So I’ve managed to get actual table to load , but cant get b2s or dmd to show. Help please. I’ve got table and b2s files named the same. Just not sure what to do.

Not sure what you have or have not tried, but start with the basics.  Is the .b2s file named the **exact** same as the .vpx file?

                      Forgot to explain:

16777215 is the color font color white – you need to change this too. Sorry.

I´ve marked some other changes to red there too that i forgot …

and now main changes at line 1795:

‘Page 4 (2 Line Gameplay DMD)

                      PuPlayer.LabelNew pDMD,”Splash4a”,dmddef,18,16777215,0,1,0,0,20,4,0

                      PuPlayer.LabelNew pDMD,”Splash4b”,dmddef,18,16777215,0,1,2,0,70,4,0

                      Thanks.

Yeah, the syntax was right in the script..

                      labelNew <screen#>, <Labelname>, <fontName>,<size%>,<colour>,<rotation>,<xalign>,<yalign>,<xpos>,<ypos>,<PageNum>,<visible>

                      I just missed it.

That color change using your numbers made a WORLD of difference.  I do wonder if there is a more “real DMD friendly” font choice too…  Hmmm..

Ok, i´ve made a “fast quick & dirty” solution for me, but try out:

Following lines / changes are for pin2dmd users only:

                          line 56:

turnondmd = 1 ‘ 0 = off, 1=regular dmd size 2 = double tall size // this now uses pinup. No ultradmd anymore

                          line 69 to 76:

                          ‘**************************

                          ‘ PinUp Player USER Config

                          ‘**************************

dim usePuPDMD : usePuPDMD=true ‘ set to false to not use PuPDMD for a DMD (different that BG scoring)

                          dim PuPDMDDriverType: PuPDMDDriverType=1 ‘ 0=LCD DMD, 1=RealDMD 2=FULLDMD (large/High LCD)

dim useRealDMDScale : useRealDMDScale=0 ‘ 0 or 1 for RealDMD scaling. Choose which one you prefer.

dim useDMDVideos : useDMDVideos=true ‘ true or false to use DMD splash videos.

Dim pGameName : pGameName=”hpgof” ‘pupvideos foldername, probably set to cGameName in realworld

be sure not to use realdmd scaling. if u do that u will get no borderd text and text is only white (hard to see).

and now main changes at line 1795:

‘Page 4 (2 Line Gameplay DMD)

                          PuPlayer.LabelNew pDMD,”Splash4a”,dmddef,18,16777215,0,1,0,0,20,4,0

                          PuPlayer.LabelNew pDMD,”Splash4b”,dmddef,18,16777215,0,1,2,0,70,4,0

I had all of the same settings at the top that you did…

For some reason, my code is slightly different for the PuPlayer lines at the end of your list.

The “20” and “70” seem to adjust the location from the top of the DMD that they display.

I changed my numbers after dmddef in those lines from 10 and 13 (I THINK that is what they were, yours are showing as 18) to 30, and then put the 20 that you have in red to 10 and the 70 in red on your list to 80.

Still not great, but a lot better for me.
Would be nice if there was more spacing between the letters too.

Here is what mine currently are.  Note that I did NOT manually change from the “16777215” shown above to what I have of “2697513”

Again, the spot with the “30” below seems to be font size.  The “10” and “80” seem to be top to bottom position.

‘Page 4 (2 Line Gameplay DMD)
                          PuPlayer.LabelNew pDMD,”Splash4a”,dmddef,30,2697513,0,1,0,0,10,4,0

Also, last note, this was from a fresh download of v 52 just before trying these changes.
                          PuPlayer.LabelNew pDMD,”Splash4b”,dmddef,30,2697513,0,1,2,0,80,4,0

The syntax for these is in the script:

                          labelNew <screen#>, <Labelname>, <fontName>,<size%>,<colour>,<rotation>,<xalign>,<yalign>,<xpos>,<ypos>,<PageNum>,<visible>

I wonder if there is a better, more “real DMD friendly” font that could be used too.

I made a small solution / text resizing for my pin2dmd. Maybe Scott will intregrate it in his way …

Yeah, I just looked at mine, and my current Pin2DMD is too “centered” top to bottom to work the way I want it to, so I would have to create a new panel completely, but that is many times easier as I can use my current panel as a template and use a router with flush trim bit to cut out the new holes.  Just takes shifting things around to get the Pin2DMD opening in a different location, but that is obviously easy and clamps work well.  That would leave just doing a mock up for an LCD panel cut out and then use that as the template for the final product…

So pretty easy, but a bit tedious.

I would need a new decal either way as I like the decal look of the speaker/DMD panel, but this is getting off topic for sure.

I have been toying with adding another screen that IS an LCD display (one of those ultra wide ones) right above my DMD to have the best of both worlds, but thought that I would at least ask the question here since 2 others did and didn’t get a response.

Yup, that is exactly what I was talking about 2 posts up:

“I have been toying with adding another screen that IS an LCD display (one of those ultra wide ones) right above my DMD to have the best of both worlds…”

I would need to remove everything from my current speaker/DMD panel, remove the decal, router out the new center DMD hole for the LCD screen, apply a new decal, and re-assemble.  That is, of course, if I can get the hole for the LCD to work with the current location it would have to go.  Otherwise, I would have to make a new panel, but that isn’t too terribly hard either.  Just need the time and the extra $$ for the screen.

Some of the graphics/video/animations are replicated OK in the low resolution of a DMD, but the words are nearly impossible to read. The letters are tiny and squished on the DMD making them difficult, like I said, to decode what they are saying. Another option would be to be able to increase the size of the real DMD font and change its color to something lighter, but I do not know how to do that or if it is possible. Other than that, I love this table… I am just not getting great scores at it, but that is the player and not the game. Thanks again for all that you have done and are doing with this amazing table.

I have a pin2dmd and didn’t even bother to try set it up for this game, I am not even sure why you would try, the score on the back glass works perfectly well.

                                  G

I might have to do that too.  Where did you place it on the backglass?  In that middle section of the bottom?  I will have to play with the size a bit as I currently have it resized for Ace of Speed to fit inside its backglass’ DMD area.

You just have to face it. Real dmd’s don’t have enough pixels to make the text readable without changing the whole dmd scene. If you are into dmd videos, then you probably should get yourself a LCD monitor instead.

That’s the problem, 99% of all other tables benefit from the older real DMD for brightness and real.feel.for a bulk of the SS tables available in VPX.  Going to an LCD monitor would make all of those tables’ DMD dull looking.

I have been toying with adding another screen that IS an LCD display (one of those ultra wide ones) right above my DMD to have the best of both worlds, but thought that I would at least ask the question here since 2 others did and didn’t get a response.

                                      .

I can’t configure my Pin2DMD to display only the score, it displays video animations which do not look that good on a DMD (but that might be a design choice, ie DMD content is designed for a real LCD ?)
                                      Best regards

I have the same issue – the videos work on the Pin2DMD but look terrible because of the low resolution and limited color depth. It’d be nice if this table had an option like the stranger things one where you can just have it show a simple score and any text messages on the DMD. I can see that some text sometimes appears over the videos in the pin2dmd but I can’t read it. If I disable the Pin2DMD in the script and just let it put those videos on my backglass screen they look fine, but I don’t have the real estate for them there – just 1 playfield screen, 1 backglass, and  the pin2dmd in my setup.

                                        Try this PUPDMDControl.exe

That works.  The quality looks really bad, and it still shows on my backglass too (where I moved the virtual DMD previously) that I will have to sort through.  Maybe I can change some settings and see if the quality is better.

UPDATE:  I just had to move and disabled (hid) the PinUp DMD so that works.  The DMD graphics are still pretty ugly, but at least they are on the Pin2DMD now.

To get it work with real-DMD, in the script, replace the line “usePUPDMDDriver=false” by “usePUPDMDDriver=true”

I had a DMD remaining on the backglass anyway so I commented the line ” ‘PuPlayer.setScreenEx pDMD,0,0,0,0,0 ‘lets show the DMD at default position.”

Hope it will be DOFed soon.

Thanks a lot for this great table

If I set usePUPDMDDriver=true than it wil fail on lines PUPDMDObject.DMDPuPMirror and PUPDMDObject.DMDPuPTextMirror

I will wait until a newer version will be release as @outhere mentioned

You have an older pupdmdcontrol.exe in vpinmame. you’ll need to grab latest from here: http://www.nailbuster.com/pupupdatesv14/PUPDMDControl_withFX3_b2.zip

                                          Thanks @nailbuster.

                                          Finally get it to work.

After copying the file, needed to register the exe again and that gave me an error that it could not find DMDdevice.dll. Copy in the same directory did a PUPDMDControl.exe /regserver and working now.

I am still unable to get this working with my Pin2DMD…

                                          I changed this to “usePUPDMDDriver=true”

And commented out this line: ” ‘PuPlayer.setScreenEx pDMD,0,0,0,0,0 ‘lets show the DMD at default position.”

I grabbed the PUPDMDControl.exe from the link and put it into the C:\Visual Pinball\VPinMAME folder.

I  already had the DMDdevice.dll in the same folder.

Opened a CMD prompt with admin access, did the PUPDMDControl /regserver command, and still get:

                                          Script Error:

                                          Line 2778

Object doesn’t support this property or method: ‘DMDPuPMirror”

                                          Any thoughts?

I used to own an actual Atlantis pinball machine.  Paid $150 back around 1984 when I was 12.  This was the first table that I put on to my VP cabinet about a year and a half ago, and I am just now seeing some new love for it.  Will download and give the older table an update.  Thanks for your work.
