On my way to the cab now. I want take the opportunity to thank you the work you’ve done here. If there is one thing I love about my vp cabinet, it is its ability to play directional sound and you’ve improved it with a lot. Thank you – Thank you – Thank you !! :yahoo:  :rose:

Agreed, we are lucky to have you njk70, thanks for your time and work.

The sounds that I am experimenting with are just that, experiments. There are and will continue to be sounds that I will want to be able to move to the backglass in the future, like voices.

I still can’t get the sounds moved to backglass in 10.7 by switching to backglass and moving the slider all the way to back, curious if anyone but wiesshund can?

Yes, if you check the parallel beta thread between Toxie and yourself he mentioned the difference between 10.6 and 10.7 beeing the possibility not only stereo on the backglas but also the full 3D sound. When you switch in sound manager it defaults to “in the middle” instead of far back. i do not know what happens with tables saved in 10.6, but I hope we do not have to modify all manually.

                                        including the statement here: https://www.vpforums.org/index.php?showtopic=44135&page=69#entry470969

10.6 does not know how to play backglass sound as anything but 2D stereo, it can not even load a multi channel surround encoded sound, let alone play it.

It can not and will not play out of any place but the front speaker channels

10.7 the backglass can play where ever you tell it to play, based on your WINDOWS speaker set up, and what kind of sound you give it

So if you set a sound to play to backglass

and leave the sliders in the default position then VPX is going to try and re-manipulate the audio

The sound is going to come out at a position roughly in the center of the sound stage.

So it is going to be some in the backglass, a lot in rear of the table, and some out the front of the table, where the flippers are

I attempted this yesterday and my sounds still came from the exciters, further attempts resulted in crashes every time so I gave up. Not sure what was going on there but I’ll give it another go later today.

With some older EM tables I like to move the chimes to the backglass and some other tables where voices are coming from the exciters I like to move those sounds to the backglass also. To do this launch VPX, right click the table and choose “edit”, choose “table” at the top and then “sound manager”. While in sound manager choose the sound you wish to move, lets choose “scorpion” or “scorpion2” from F-14 Tomcat they are voices that are set up to emit from the table/exciters. Click on “‘scorpion” and then the “position” tab, then click “Backglass’ and “ok”. The sound should now come from the backglass and not the table/exciters. I believe you can also just hit “Toggle BG Out” to switch the sound. Doing this in 10.7 does nothing but doing it in 10.6 the sound changes to the backglass like it should. Thalamus mentioned that he had issues with ROM sounds but I did not notice any.

I’m still baffled by the fact that I seems to be the only one that has mentioned serious sound issues from some of the table running 10.7. I fear that it will be my exit point out of this hobby.

Well you’re not nuts :) I just posted this in the 10.7 beta thread.

“I just tested F-14 Tomcat (f14_l1) and can confirm that using 10.7 and placing the sounds onto the back glass, the sounds still come out of the exciters. Trying the same thing in 10.6 the sounds that I moved to the back glass played out of the back glass and not the exciters. Nice find Thalamus”

Note, just tested Taxi (taxi_l4) and it has the same issue, 10.7 back glass sounds come from exciters.
