WOW! This is amazing!
Now I’ve just gotta find a creative way that would allow me to play head to head with a real person on my cabinet, in a way that looks good and feels comfortable.
Thanks for the effort and innovation on this one!
While it might not be the most pleasing solution, the easiest one is just to hook a wireless controller for the second player, it’s pretty easy to remap the second player to controls.

Hey there,
Just doing some searching and found this old thread. I own an AG Soccerball – if you are still after anything.
I pretty much got everything I needed and restored most of the artwork, thanks for offering though. Life got real busy for randr and then I got super busy as well so we had to shelf this project for now. We had it probably around 70-80% done, I just needed to touch up a bit more of the artwork and add a few plastics. I do plan on completing this at some point, I just can’t say when right now.

Firstly let me say it looks like a really nice update.
I could be mistaken but it looks like my plastic ramps (and other odd 3d parts) are still the same ones I made for UW’s version but with updated textures.
While I don’t really care too much, I will express that I don’t necessarily appreciate being shed from the credits and it wouldn’t be the first time this sort of thing happened with a ‘mod’ which is what motivated me to write this up many moons ago:

I long for a “Appreciated” button, instead of a “Like” Meaning of course, sad to see that you guys are retiring, but, at the same time. Happy to hear that you’ve found new grounds and are enjoying what you’re doing. And, don’t be a stranger – we love to hear from you, contributing or not.
I still lurk. :)

October 7, 2020 at 4:06 pm in reply to: rehearsals for departure (or how i learned to stop worrying and plot a vpx exit) #203664I can relate to this, while there are always ways to improve what we already have, as a whole I’m just tired of vpx. It’s an amazing piece of software and so many great artists have managed to do so much with it but in an era where real time raytracing is about ready to become the norm, 2d lighting and the tedium of getting it to look really good is just a bummer. I had planned to take another extended break after finishing the AG soccer table with randr but randr got busy and so did I so it’s shelved for now (I do vow to finish it though once we both have some time for it). My hobby isn’t necessarily building 3D pinball toys, but rather 3D modelling in general and I’ve used vp as a means to motivate myself to improve and learn more about 3D and at this point I just feel like pinball doesn’t pose many challenges for me any longer except for maybe the odd toy. I don’t really like spending all the time to make all the basic pinball parts so I’ve traditionally just contributed models to other peoples projects but I have made a few complete tables in 3D.
I really like to make 3D models that will actually be used for something, such as a pinball game, some months back though I was presented with an opportunity to do a 3D build of an interior for a large estate on a well known GTA RP server that has a large twitch stream viewer base. Without getting into too much detail, I started to work on the modelling as well as research how to actually stream the assets properly in game. I will say one thing, I greatly underestimated how complicated it is to actually make an interior for GTAV lol. Fast forward to now and I have everything regarding my project figured out with the potential to learn a lot more, I’ve congregated with other like-minded people to share information and learn and even gained some recognition and respect among my peers. It’s been fun and exciting and of course very frustrating at times but for me seeing my models come to life in an actual AAA game (albeit modding) is really rewarding for me. I haven’t felt this kind of enthusiasm for 3D modelling since I first started in the VP scene over 10 years ago. I’ll post a video at some point so you guys can check it out but I’ve been trying to keep on the down-low for now as per the streamers request.
GTA/FiveM still presents me with a lot of interesting opportunities before it goes stale for me, I’m hoping that just as it starts to go stale that I can make some visits here to contribute to some VPE projects.
Honestly Bord I’ve been thoroughly impressed over the years at just how consistent you’ve been working on so many projects. I felt the need to branch off from vp for a long time but I just couldn’t help myself from getting roped into another project, even now it’s hard for me not to when there’s so many things I’d like to see modelled or updated. So when you make an outline for your exit strategy like this, I can totally relate, I’m sure there’s a VPE table or two in our future. :)

This looks a lot better than I expected based off what the previous version and it’s resources looked like, always glad to see rarer tables get updated.

If you make a significant enough update that I like I can post it as an update, or run it by me and I’ll consider permission to mod but I’m really inactive in the VP scene right now.

Discovered the table today, worked out of the box with 10.6 for me. Great fun! Hopefully the Alvin G Soccer will show up some day, too!;-)
Did I dream it, or did I read (some months ago) about the possibility to play (some?) tables online one on one? This could be monster fun with these tables.
Thanks for sharing anyway!
Online multiplayer has been a long desired feature, however I don’t think there’s anything currently. I know there was a bunch of discussion around potentially being able to have online multiplayer with VR in conjunction with Unity VP (VPE)….that will be an exciting day especially for these head to head tables.
The Alvin’ G Soccer table is still in the works but has been put on a bit of a hold since both randr and I are both very busy irl. I have like 85% of the 3D work done, 95% artwork done, at this point it’s just a matter of getting everything working on the table nicely. I was planning to bake a basic AO (play field shadows) on a layer but nothing too special in terms of pre-rendered stuff so it’s really not too too far from a release. Work should resume on it in the coming weeks.

Magical. The sidepanels disappear, when you look from outside of the cabinet. ?
Game engines do not render both sides of faces/polygons. So if the polygons are single sided, as in flat with no back, only one side will render.

Ummmm I guess? lol I don’t really know how that works, I’m just building everything in 3dsmax atm.

Table is coming together. I’ve been provided measurements for many things on the table so for the most part it should be accurate to within a 1-2mm variance. I’m hoping to get the bulk of it done by this weekend. I will be building the full cabinet including the cabinet artwork so it will make for an easy VR conversion I would think.
This is a high resolution render so if you like, you can right click and ‘open in new tab’ to be able to zoom in.

@cyberpez you don’t need to feel rushed I just wanted to start making the plastics into prims this weekend is why I’m curious. I’m doing a less thorough job than you, I’m mainly focused on the colors and I’m only touching up blacks and darkening them a bit with levels.
Got some text here please. :)
Will also need the text in black for the red version.

Sick, @dark. Those are sweet! Are you going to keep the geometry or use a normal map? My success with normal maps on flippers has been nominal at best, although I just finished some metal etched 2″ flippers that look alright.
I ended up just making the top of the flipper with the text just a texture map, I also baked a normal map for it which looked fine in max and looks fine in vp initially but soon as you flip the flipper it causes issues, likely the tangent map normal issue in VPX. I still have to finalize the flippers but we have them mostly working in vpx with the wire animating as balls go under it but it still needs some fine tuning…..the thing is tricky.
In other news I’m going hard on restoring the plastics now and expect to begin building the table in 3D this weekend.
@cyberpez How are you making out on that plastic? Would it be reasonable to have it completed by the weekend? You need to login in order to like this post: click here
