A lot has happened since we last spoke. Loserman76 has figured out the game flow scripting … so the game basically works. (I’m indebted.) While he was doing that, I was testing shots and discovered that some of them were darn near impossible. So I adjusted angles. And that short wire ramp @zimbakin said was genius wasn’t so genius after all. I just couldn’t make the shot with any degree of probability. So I did what I did on The Clash, plastic ramp to wire ramp. Not as charming, but the shot and ramp physics are great now.
You may notice some other things here. A few more movie accurate signs on the back wall, and I re-modeled the radio to drastically reduce poly count on the primitive.
Still a lot of work to go.

No one’s perfect, you’ll get there. The short wire ramp I still consider a stroke creative of genius. I just love the look of it. Good things take time

If it’s a Bord table, it goes straight to the cab. No questions asked… it’s going to be good.
Incredible detail! Thanks BordNever take advice from me,

That looks really cool. I bet we see this table before the damn movie comes out. I know the world stopped with COVID but WTF Tom, get your ass back to work and away from the church so we can see your next sequel. I’m calling it, I think the movie is gonna suck
Hehe.. I’ll have to add an Aim-9 to take out a flying thetan from outer-space in the form of a mesh ;)
Think the next one will be average also. Hard to beat the originals.Never take advice from me,

Working through this when I have time.
Everything from scripting updates, graphic tweaks and a new Pup animation… bit by bit.
(Intend to keep pup updates to a minimum, so update size is reduced).Getting there slowly. Iv’e re-rendered the playfield no less than four times because I wasn’t happy with the lighting. No point doing low-res drafts because the detail is lost. Each render is taking me around 5 hours each (usually at night while I’m sleeping)
Here’s another teaser. Getting creative with the new tilt addition…
(believe or not, I forgot visual feedback for tilt in the beta.. initially due to the core ROM / scripting limitations).Never take advice from me,

Created a new brushed metal drain deflector today with custom lamp (plastic diffuser under a tempered glass cover).

I have it working on single screen desktop PC, but do not have the music etc, so not enjoyable. Not sure if there is a workaround. Table is nice though. Thanks.
Thanks man.
If you’re missing music etc. make sure Pinup system is all running correctly first and then…
the TopGun PUP pack is in the PUPVideos folder per my install instructions. (Missing music probably means something is not installed correctly). So long as you have Pinup system installed it’s easy to layout your playfield and backglass etc. on a single screen. From memory I think it’s PinupPlayerConfigDisplays..or something like that. Then you just move your playfield, backglass etc, to where you want.

For anyone still interested in Top Gun… It’s not abandoned!
I’ve been working for the past few months (between other things) on lengthy updates.
A few mechanical additions and a lot of visual updates including new primitives, more realistic 27k ‘man cave’ lighting, shadows rendered out + a lot of subtle detail that mostly makes little difference. But hey… she’s my baby.Never take advice from me,

I go with MSI GeForce, the biggest you can reasonably afford.
I’ve used both MSI 1080TI and 1070.. all work great. Always good to future proof though.Never take advice from me,

January 26, 2021 at 2:31 am in reply to: Cabinet Rebirth! From the ashes a new cabinet will be born #221151Check out pinscape for everything you need. I think r&r also did a video on LEDs some time ago.
I have a video summary of my 4k build. Although, I haven’t done LEDs yet, I did leave space in the cab. Be sure to angle the screen back to allow for LEDs.Main thing with any TV or monitor is refresh rates for latency + lag-free gaming PLUS viewing angle. The 4k TV in my build (although not the best), works beautifully for lag-free responsive gameplay and great viewing angles. ie. some monitors have great latency, however poor side viewing angles.
It might sound strange, however I stood in store and looked at screens for hours tilting my head side-on… the angle your screen will be mounted in the cab.Hope that helps.

Haven’t checked in a while, however 1.7.1 works perfectly. Roll back for now and enjoy the cab. Happy days.
