Wow, this looks and plays great; thanks for sharing it!

I had a few weird physics when catching with the right flipper. Seemed a bit sticky at times.

              Hey SuperEd,

I love this table! But I’m having issues with trying to get the script to take to the UltraDMD. I did changed the settings in the script to 0 for ultradmd, are there other settings in the script I need to adjust?

I was probably more confused than anyone my first year but I started digging into these tables and trying things out. The best way to learn is to do. As far as making more tutorials, I have asked the same thing but the problem is that most people don’t want to learn or say they can’t learn. The people that really want to learn this stuff show an interest and then the vets more often than not will take them under their wing and help them. These tasks above are the simple essential tasks that everyone should take upon themselves to learn so that they can properly use this software without issues.

Agreed that the best way to learn is to fail. But that is not an option for many people. Most people do not take well to failure and simply quit or rely on the others that know. This is especially true when it comes to very complex puzzles like VPX. That is life, and that is what it will always be. As the ones that have the focus and determination to persevere through the tough parts, it is up to us to pass on the information and help other that are not able. But, unfortunately, that is not an option, or desire, for many of the people that have the knowledge. Again, thank god for people like Major Frenchy and TerryRed, who seem to get just as much pleasure in helping people through sharing what they have learned as they do building their rigs. I know I too plan on sharing my knowledge once I move from Desktop to building my full scale table/backglass rig.

Everything in life is easy once you know how to do it. Teaching isn’t exactly fun. These VP sites are full of information, but it is many times hard to find the correct answers due to the complexity of the structure of all the moving parts that make VPX work. With more popularity of the hobby, comes more new people that are confused.

Maybe you should start a “most asked questions answered” tutorial for all the new people?

I know when I came here about a year ago, it was very confusing and intimidating. To a point where I almost didn’t attempt it. And that is coming from a person that set up a 10 platform, multi-emulator build with a front end for all my consoles and arcade games. I am glad I persevered because VPX is my most payed system in my emulation build now.

Luckily there are a handful of people that are very nice and understanding to help with these “stupid” questions. And without people like Major Frenchy, with his amazing YouTube how-to videos, you would have a lot more of these questions inundating the forums. He has singlehandedly answered more questions for me through his videos than any info I have found in the forums.

In all seriousness, if more vets in the community would make and share YouTube how-to tutorials and be more open to sharing the knowledge, I think it will help further grow the hobby.  and get rid of some of the “stupid” questions.

Very unique table. I love these weird, non-traditional layouts. Thanks for making and sharing it, all involved. It looks great too!

I’m definitely going to add some of those cigarette holders on my table for my left handed cigs when/if I ever make one (desktop now).

                        Great tables!
Though, I am getting an error after about a minute if I let it sit idle after table launch. See attached image.
Though, if I get it playing quickly before the error message can pop up, it plays fine.

I think I can help you guys, I’ve just spent the last 3 months experimenting with 4k verses 2k. In my opinion 2k with a high refresh rate is the way to go. Once you get used to 120 or 144 hz you can’t go back. The ball just moves smoother and looks way more realistic.

I am currently researching to build a 32″ table too, and this is the same conclusion I came to. 32″ 120/or/144hx is the sweet spot in my opinion.

I think going with higher frame rates over resolution is especially better for smaller screens. I could see wanting to have 4K resolution for a larger 43″ screen, but not for a 27″ or 32″ screen. 4K on a 32″ screen would unnecessarily tax your machine more for an unperceived resolution bump at that screen size. This will also allow you to spend less money on the graphics card, theoretically – though that saved money may be moved over to the TV since those extra hz are not cheap either =).

I would go 1080p 60hz for the backglass though.

Wow! I finally got around to playing this table after installing it months ago. I must say, it is a visual stunner, and plays great too. Thanks for the attention to detail, and for sharing this fun table. Such a cool piece of history.

I wanted to update this table because of the issue with the drop targets that @piffer had mentioned and to add a few more enhancements i’ve made.

But also, I was very impressed with JPs v3 physics update so i wanted to update to use that as well.

To me, the ball just seems to flow around the table so much better and doesnt seem as artificial.

I am actually planning to add his physics changes to the other tables I’ve made as well.

Thanks for keeping your tables updated

I play the guitar, have jams with other music friends about once a month or two. And play disk golf about once a week. Vegetable garden keeps me busy too. Also into console and arcade emulation. I wish I knew more about VPX development, but that is a bit over my head at the moment, so I am just a leacher around here for now =(
